Fine specimen of the striking, richly colored blockprint by van Gulik used as the covers of his landmark translation of Dee Gong An, printed for the author in 1949, the work that inspired the scholar-diplomat-author’s acclaimed Judge Dee novels.
One of a small number of original prints that were not used in binding the edition of 1200 numbered copies.
