1 vols. 4to. Inscribed “For Isabel–With love from Ellsworth. Saigon 1-26-70.” This is Isabel Leighton Bunker, Mrs. Arthur H. Bunker, his sister-in-law. The photograph and presentation was when he was American Ambassador to Vietnam (1967- ). Item #17918

Bunker had served in several countries as the American Ambassador including Nepal and India. His efforts had been recognized in 1963 when he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He was president of the American National Red Cross in 1954. Isabel Leighton, later Mrs. Arthur Hugh Bunker, was a war correspondent, playwright, actress, radio personality and author and very active with various social responsibilites. She was the author of “Where Away,” and her short story “Fat Girl” was chosen for inclusion among the “100 Best Stories to Come of the War.” Her theatrical successes include “Spring Again” and “Mercenary Mary” and as a war correspondent she covered both Asia and Europe with her articles appearing in most of the leading periodicals in the country.
