Edgar Allan Poe was an American poet, editor, literary critic, and author who was part of the American Romantic Movement. Poe is known for his tales of the macabre, mystery and detective fiction, and also contributing greatly to the emerging genre of science fiction. He wrote a great deal of fiction works on the theme of the Gothic, focusing on questions of death and dying, decomposition, burials, the undead, and mourning. His most notable works include "The Cask of Amontillado", "The Masque of the Red Death", "The Pit and the Pendulum", "The Tell-Tale Heart", "Annabel Lee", "A Dream Within a Dream", and "The Raven".
