Written by the Mathieson, the Provost of Dumfermline, the privately-printed work recounts an 1882 visit with a group of Scottish citizens to tour the United States on the invitation of Andrew Carnegie. The group travelled in style, accompanied by Carnegie, visiting New York, Albany, Troy, Niagara, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Washington, D.C. (including a visit with President Chester Arthur) and Philadelphia. The present example inscribed to Andrew Martin, one of the mebers of the tour.
