Cooper was first moved to come to America in the early 1790s because of political freedom, but he became an enthusiastic booster, especially of the Middle Atlantic colonies. He visited and reports on Kentucky, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. The work includes a printing of the Constitution and the proposed Bill of Rights, as well as a republication of Benjamin Franklin's Information to those who would Remove to America. The work was reissued in Dublin and translated to French.
The map, by Thomas Conder, depicts the United States from Vermont to Kentucky, extending as far west as the Wabash River.
