This two-part work begins with the first published English translation of the German botanist Leonhard Rauwolf's account of his travels through the Levant. The second part samples a number of other travel accounts in translation and concludes with an original taxonomy of Levantine plant life. Ray (1627-1705) was one of the earliest parson-naturalists and made a number of important contributions to pre-Linnaean plant taxonomy.
