Item #374748

An extensive collection of papers, including two typed letters, signed ('Ian Fleming') to Ulrica Knowles, his secretary, as well as secretary and advertising manager at The Book Collector Ltd., a bibliographical journal run by Fleming in the 1950s. Knowles was also an occasional typist for the author, producing his editorial copies of the manuscript for Diamonds are Forever.

The collection relates mainly to the Book Collector, but with some reference to Glidrose Productions Ltd., the company Fleming purchased to manage the business aspects of his published works. Letters from Fleming discuss the advertising at The Book Collector Ltd., and Knowles management of it. The Glidrose material relates to payments for foreign translations and serialization rights for both Moonraker and Diamonds are Forever and mentions the television scripts. The collection also includes incoming letters about Book Collector business, most addressed to Fleming, with carbon copies of outgoing letters, by Percy Muir, RM Butterworth, Desmond Flower, John Hayward, Michael Howard, James Shand of the Shenval Press, Wedlake & Saint, Albert Erhman, Arthur A. Houghton Jr., and others. It also includes notes and memoranda, seemingly annotated by Fleming, relating to meetings, luncheons, etc.
