Original publisher's half binding in pigskin and tan boards, stamped in brown on spine; some exterior wear and soil. Illustrated throughout with black-and-white photographs, engravings, and maps; printed tissue guards; endpapers foxed, with light additional foxing to margins of interior pages; light water-staining at top of pages in first half of volume II; some pages unopened at top; edges tanned.
