Early half calf and marbled boards, the atlas bound to match. Text with foxing to the frontispiece portrait of Washington, else much cleaner internally than usually found. The second edition of the great Supreme Court Justice’s classic biography of the first President, published virtually simultaneoulsy with the first edition of 1804-7, and complete with the quarto atlas volume of campaign maps and subscribers list. "After the able, accurate and comprehensive work of Chief Justice Marshall, it would be presumptuous to attempt a historical biography of Washington" (Jared Sparks). This set in an attractive early American binding and a much nicer set than generally encountered.
