Narrative of a coaching journey by a party comprising “Lord and Lady St. Munn”, the Hon. Mr. and Mrs. Lee, a coachman and a groom, a leisurely tour, not without incident, from the river Tweed to Solway, and thence to London via a western route, Carlisle to Kendall via the Lakes, Kendal to Buxton to Coventry, to Oxford via Warwick, and then to London by way of Henley and Windsor. The title is a play upon a well-known Victorian novel, A Cruise upon Wheels. The chronicle of some autumn wanderings among the deserted post-roads of France (1862), by C. A. Collins (1828-1873). The work is dedicated to “Lady St. Munn”.
Inscribed on the title page (to the original of “Lord St. Munn” or the Hon. Mr. Lee?): “Beg pardon Sir but the coachman sends this to you & hopes you will not forget him on the next journey, For wife & self. A.R. [and] J.G.R.”
The coachman (A.R.) is named “William” in the text. The only other copy is in the British Library.
