Susan Lushington was the daughter of Vernon Lushington who introduced Edward Burne-Jones to Dante Gabriel Rossetti. He was known for her eccentricities and her photographs.

She has here isnscribed this copy to artist and family friend Arthur Hughes (1832-1915) who painted a portrait of Susan's sister, Jane. Kitty, the third sister was the model for Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway.
