With several mock-critical comments in Moore's hand inked to the front free-endpaper, e.g.: "To some a subtly fascinating and a dangerous book" and, "To some a powerfully written book that except as a bizarre work of art had better never have been written," and, "To the protestant majority of the English critical literary world a misleading morbind analytical study...." A note penciled to the front pastedown endpaper identifies the book as being from the library of Sir F.C. Burnand (1836-1917), the English playwright, author and editor of Punch.
