A beautiful set of the first Paris edition of Blackstone's Commentaries of the Laws of England, translated by Chompré from the London edition of 1809. The first edition in French, translated from the 1770 fourth English edition by August Pierre Damiens de Gomicourt, was published in Brussels in six volumes, 1774-6. A pirated edition, it was not a particular faithful translation and was superseded by this authorized edition of 1822-3.
