The publisher’s note on the verso of the half title begins: “This extra-illustrated edition of ‘The Compleat Angler’ is specially designed for collectors of this famous work … the illustrations consist of Fifty Steel Plates…Six Original Etchings and Two Portraits, as well as Seventy-four Engravings on wood by various eminent artists… ” The publisher ends, almost casually, “To this is added Ten Steel Plates, coloured, representing 120 Flies, natural and artificial.”.
