The preliminaries contain commendatory poems by Joshua Barnes, Matthew Bryan and others. Walker’s translation was previously published under the title Epicteti ENCHIRIDION in several earlier editions (e.g., 1692, 1695, 1697, 1702, 1716); and yet again under this title in 1764 - a clear enough indication of the enduring popularity of the stoic philosophers in eighteenth-century England.
