It was not only designed by him, but was printed in a trial font of his own Montaigne typeface. Blumenthal (Bruce Rogers, p. 15) quotes a letter from Rogers to Carl Purington Rollins: “There are some minor differences between the type to be used in the ‘Montaigne’ and that of the ‘Revenge’ -- the latter being really a trial stage of the finally accepted type. Several letters were recut after the “Revenge” was printed…”.
