Amusing comments on various aspects of angling and camping. Carleton was a journalist, the managing editor of the old “Life” magazine for which he wrote the humorous “Thompson Street Poker Club” papers. He was also a successful playwright: his play “The Butterflies”, featuring John Drew, made Maude Adams a star. In this book, distributed by a fishing tackle firm, he states, “If the few little precepts I have given can be of any use to the young anglers who will read them, I shall be glad. They have been of no use to me.”.
