Fine sporting drawing by Churchill Ettinger, illustrating the scene in the story by Ben Ames Williams, "The Old Men's Pool", where fisherman and guide, furious at each other's stubbornness, descend the falls of the Humber River in full flood.
Mr. Hamilton "just kept on smoking, as calm as if he was setting on the cabin porch down at Old Men's Pool. So Joe, mad at himself for being such a fool, swung [the canoe] to hit the chute down the Little Falls.
"And about that time he remembered that Mr. Hamilton couldn't swim. ... But Mr. Hamilton never puffed his pipe any faster, nor turned his head, nor held on, nor even stiffened in his seat."
