Interesting missive from the novelist, early in his tenure as Editor of the New Monthly Magazine, coordinating with Hall the mailing of the Proofs with his own plans to travel to Knebworth. "As regards Southern I see that he must be dimissed. His promise to me was sacred - Now if a delay should take place ... it is possible that I cannot return them in time as few if any coaches go on Sunday ... "
