Banks was a lawyer turned playwright, who wrote "One of the most consistently popular tragedies on the London stage" (Sutherland English Literature of the Late Seventeenth Century"). Dryden contributed the Prologue and the Epilogue to this historical tragedy, first printed in 1682, then 1685, 1693, and 1699.
