Ted Hughes

Ted Hughes

1930 - 1998

Ted Hughes was an English poet and writer of children's literature. From 1984 until his death, he was British Poet Laureate. He was married to American poet Sylvia Plath until her suicide in 1963. Although there were some poems in New Selected Poems (1996) that concerned Plath, it was not until Birthday Letters (1998) that he published the bulk of the poems exploring their relationship. Hughes was very interested in the relationship between the book arts and poetry and often wrote poetry to complement art such as Crow. He also wrote the  book The Iron Man, which has been adapted in both film and music.
