Item #56853

Contains prose translations of PARADISE LOST ("Le paradis perdu"), by N. F. Dupré de Saint Maur, as revised by C. J. Chéron de Boismorand; PARADISE REGAINED ("Le paradis reconquis") and "Oeuvres diverses" (including "Lycidas", "l'Allegro", "le Penseroso", "Cantique sur la fête de Nol") translated by Pierre de Mareuil. The "Six lettres critques" are apparently by Bernard Routh

Nicolas François Dupré de Saint-Maur's translation was the first of Paradise Lost into French, and remained the standard throughout the 18th century. This appears to be the first Geneva printing of Milton's great epic.
