A study of London children’s games including "Queenie.”
Inscribed by the author on the flyleaf: “For Islay on his birthday hoping he will learn to play these games, particularly those on p. 22, when he gets a little older, from Norman, Capri, 7 March 1951”
The reference is, perhaps, to Deliver Up Those Golden Jewels, “It’s rather rude. None of our boys are caught at it more than once — not at playing the judge, at least.” There are references to other games that “can all be played in a respectable fashion, but the worst of it is, they generally aren’t.”.
