With the signature of Ant[oine] Arnauld on the title and a notation by Prospere Zorbé confirming Arnauld's ownership on verso of endpaper. Arnauld, known as "the Great Arnauld" of the noted family of lawyers was the disciple of Cornelius Jansen and leader of the Jansenists and Port Royal. He was a close friend of Pascal. From 1661 until 1669 he was in hiding having been declared a heretic and having refused to set aside his beliefs.
