Dante Alighieri

Dante Alighieri

1265 – 1321

Dante Alighieri was a Florentine poet whose exile from his native city profoundly shaped both his life and his greatest work, The Divine Comedy. Composed in the Tuscan vernacular and employing the terza rima rhyme scheme (aba bcb cdc), which Dante is credited with inventing, the poem helped lay the foundation for the modern Italian language.
