With illustrations of all woodcuts that appeared in the Abbotsford Edition and all the steel plates belonging to the Author's Favourite Edition. 25 vols. 8vo. Bound in contemporary three quarters polished blue calf, gilt spine, contrasing leather title labels, all edges marbled. Minor wear else about fine. Inscribed on ffep of Volume One "Mr. John T. Terry/ with the compliments of/his friend/ E.D. Morgan/ New York January/1st 1881." This is Edwin Denoison Morgan 1811-1883, Governor of New York inscribing to his friend banker John Taylor Terry (1822-1913) In 1841, Terry moved to New York to clerk for Edwin Denison Morgan (future New York governor, U.S. Senator and Major General) at his import house, E.D. Morgan & Company (which had been organized by Morgan in 1843 with his cousin George D. Morgan and Frederick Avery). After Avery left the firm in 1844, Terry became the third partner. After Morgan's death in 1883, Terry assumed control of the firm.[3.
