First edition, in the original monthly parts, with some issues (1, 3, 4) in later issued states. Engraved title, 42 engraved plates by Hablot Browne [Phiz] (some spotting and discoloration). 8vo. Original green pictorial printed wrappers, 9 parts skillfully rebacked, others with small repairs, some nicks at edges. In full blue morocco pull off case. Eckel 3-88; Hatton and Cleaver 3-88.

The first two parts of Pickwick sold out quickly, necessitating reprints before even the third part was released. It gained in popularity such that parts one through eight were reprinted many times, leading to small variations in the text. This set, like most, appears in a mixed state.
