Writing of his disappointment that the printer had not yet sent the proof of his Education article and worrying that it might be late. Bain was the author of several books including “Logic” and “Mind and Body” and “Senses and the Intellect.” He founded the periodical “Mind” in 1876 and was one of the “first to apply psychology results to psychological investigations.” Youmans was the founder of “Popular Science Monthly’ and planned the “International Scientific Series,” he was a noted lecturer on science and author of several works.

The July 9, 1876 edition carried a portrait of Bain, it may be that it accompanied this article by him.
