Consul document signed by Nathaniel Hawthorne in his capacity as Consul of the United States at Liverpool, attesting that Hezekial Galacar of the condemned American ship the Sea Lion has deposited with the consulate the ship's register and certified crew list. With mansucript note in a secretarial hand attesting "that the List of Crew has been returned to him and the Register retained for the purpose of being transmitted to the Treasury said vessel having been condemned and sold."
With material relating to Galacar and the Sea Lion:
"List of Persons Composing the Crew of the Ship Sea Lion of Boston whereof is a Master H. Galacar bound for St. George NB." Large partially printed ship's crew list, 18-1/2 x 16 inches, dated September 2, 1856, listing 17 crew members aged 17 to 43, all residing in Boston, signed by Galacar and P.W.W. Sellair [?], Collector, two embossed seals.
Mansucript Galacar family history, 2 pp., by the son of Hezekial Galacar (1815-1864), with annotated scrapbook page preserving items relating to the Galacar family (business cards, newspaper clippings and other ephemera), 8-1/2 x 8-1/4 inches, toned.
