While Steinbeck is in Paris on his tour of Europe, he wires his friend at the Claridge Hotel in London: "IN REGARD TO STAGE AND SCREEN ANNIE LAURIE IS | THE QUEEN GOOD LUCK - JOHN - "
Annie Laurie Williams was their agent; at the time Meredith was playing on the London Stage in "Winterset."
