Item #251614

Second edition of William Bellenden's work on classical political thought, first published in 1615.  The original edition praised Cicero, Pliny, and Seneca, while they have been replaced by the editor here with three Englishman.  "This work was much admired and much plagiarized in the eighteenth century.  Samuel Parr, for instance, issued a new edition of Bellenden in 1787 [sic], and supplied three English luminaries (Burke, Fox, and Lord North) in place of Bellenden's Romans" - DNB.  A very nice copy in red morocco.
