Horses, Horse Racing, and Equestrian Books

Horses, Horse Racing, and Equestrian Books

A springtime selection of books relating to horses, and equestrian pursuits, including thoroughbred racing and its history in America and England. Many of these titles come from the library of the Jockey Club in New York, often with interesting earlier provenance. Highlights include early books such as Baret’s Hipponomie (1618), De Grey’s Compleat Horse-Man (1684), and Langbaine’s The Hunter (1685); an outstanding set of the American Turf Register and Sporting Magazine (1829-44); and Harry Worcester Smith’s essay on Edward Troye’s Race Horses of America, as well as uncommon American imprints and illustrated books, and a complete set of the monumental Racing in America 1665-1979.
