Travel & Exploration

James Cummins Bookseller is excited to share with our friends this list of treasures in this subject. We are offering the best edition of Lewis and Clark's Travels to the Source of the Missouri River and Across the American Continent to the Pacific Ocean. It is the first English edition of the "definitive account of the most important exploration of the North American continent" and the first quarto edition, superior in quality to the two-volume octavo edition published in Philadelphia the same year. We are also offering Captain James Cook's A Journal of a Voyage to the South Seas, in His Majesty's Ship, The Endeavour, with the rare explanatory remarks by Fothergill. Among other highlights is Thomas and William Daniell's A Picturesque Voyage to India, a handsome first edition copy, with 50 hand-colored aquatint plates; and finally a sailor's commonplace book made while traveling through Cuba, Florida, Greece, and Italy in 1822-33, with entries comprising original watercolor drawings, stories and poems.
