Kingston (1814-1888) was a prolific author of juvenile novels (“On the Banks of the Amazon,” “In the Wilds of Africa,” etc.): “…in his day he was perhaps the most popular of juvenile writers.” — Kunitz & Haycraft. Interestingly, he also translated Jules Verne.
