In 1935, the British essentailly stepped away from backing Ethiopia’s plea for League of Nations support against Italian aggression; Sidney Barton, the British minister in Addis Ababa, was instructed to tell Haile Selassie to reach a settlement with the Italians by admitting guilt and making concessions. Alfred Eisenstaedt was there.
