Volume One flyleaf inscribed "With the author's compts [compliments] /Anna Eliza Bray/ Ded. 1837." A complimentary copy sent by the publisher to Anna Eliza Bray (1790-1883), novelist and friend of Southey. Southey carried on an extensive correspondence (now in the University of Rochester archives) with her, visited her home, and encouraged her republication of her husband's Dartmoor researches.
