Item #54115

Callot's most famous suite, Les Misères et malheurs de la guerre (the miseries and misfortunes of war, 1633), produced following Richelieu's invasion of Lorraine during the Thirty Years War. Callot's art is remarkable for its economy and precision; these are some of the most striking images of battle and executions ever produced and have influenced successive generations of illustrators and artists. Printer Leonard Schenk was active 1720-1740.
