Sam Rayburn (1882-1961) was a Democratic congressman from Texas, 1913-1961; he was Speaker of the U.S. House for three stretches during his incumbency, 1940-1947, 1949-1953, 1955-1961 and died in office.
Joseph W. Martin, Jr. (1884-1968) was a Republican congressman from Massachusetts, 1925-1967, and Speaker of the U.S. House, 1947-1949 and 1953-1955.
