Item #40487

Harvard-educated Wall Street lawyer, US Assistant Secretary of War and one of the insiders who recommended against the atom bombing of Japan, President of the World Bank, High Commissioner for Germany, Chairman of the Chase Manhattan Bank and the Ford Foundation, arms advisor to President Kennedy, member of the Warren Commission and foreign policy advisor to Presidents FDR through Reagan, John McCloy was a leading figure in the US Establishment. Here, he writes (as Chase Chairman), “I have had a good many photos taken of me from time to time but this was the least painful experience I have ever had--and it was evident throughout that I was in the hands of one who knew his business.” Below this McCloy has signed again, with the date May 6, 1975 and the note “Squibb annual meeting”.
