Colbert, trained as a lawyer, climbed the ladder at Chrysler, becoming President in 1950 and Chairman in 1960, his tenure marked with colorful controversy leading to executive fistfights and some internal dislocations not evident in his note to Eisenstaedt: “With thanks for a delightful photographing appointment--and thanks too for the pleasant and enlightening conversation that went along with the picture taking...”.
