Inscribed from Dr. Cornelius R. Agnew, a member of the Execuive Committee of the Sanitary Commission to his wife Christmas 1867 on the ffep. During the Civil War, he was medical director of the New York Volunteer Hospital, treating wounded Union soldiers. He was prominent in the United States Sanitary Commission, which administered supplies and medical assistance to the field armies.
Tipped in following the last page of text is a broadside from the Sanitary Reporter, refuting claims made about the Sanitary Commission's poor financial parctices. Dr. Agnew added a handwritten marginal note to the broadside.
