"The following Lectures were delivered in Boston during the spring of the present year; and in their purpose was to arouse women to a knowledge of physical laws, to show them how their dress defies these laws, and what different garments they should adopt. All, save the last, were written by femal physicians of recognized ability and position" (Introduction). The female physicians who have contributed lectures include Drs. Mary J. Safford Blake, Caroline E. Hastings, Mercy B. Jackson and Arvilla B. Haynes. The tipped-in cancel in the rear comprises a notice of a woman's dress reform office, show room with specimens of recommended clothing which could be ordered. An early owner has annotated the endpaper with the address of the office (4 Hamilton Place, Boston).
