Third book from the enigmatic Sarban, “diffident, compassionate, highly intelligent and sensitive” (Mark Valentine), containing the title story and two others, “The Trespassers” and “A House of Call”. J.W. Wall (1910-1989) was a linguist and career diplomat and civil servant. In New Maps of Hell, Kingsley Amis observed that Sarban wrote The Sound of His Horn “in prose of greater energy and power than any sicence-fiction writer can command”. The Doll Maker is a modern classic, and uncommon in dust jacket.
