Beat novelist and experimental writer William S. Burroughs writes to thank NYU professor Tom Bishop for assistance in organizing parts of the Nova Convention, a memorable gathering and series of performances held November 30 through December 2, 1978, that brought together the downtown punk and rock ’n’ roll scene in celebration of the author of Naked Lunch. Frank Zappa and Patti Smith were among the participants. Reading, in part:

Many thanks for your generous help with the Nova Convention; I thought the reception at the Maison Française was a success, and I appreicat your work on the Panels & Lectures, as well as your help with the film program at the Schimmel Auditorium … Sincerely, William S. Burroughs.
