153.407 acres of Flushing between Bay Side and Queens Avenue over to Jamaica Avenue. John Bowne, the Quaker leader (1627/8 -1695) came from England in 1649 and settled in Flushing in 1653. After various peregrinations due to his religious beliefs he settled again in Flushing and became a large land owner and farmer.
