Separately issued extract from Memoirs of the Museum of Comp. Zoöl., Vol. VII, No. 2. With a presentation inscription to Stephen P. Sharples, from Miss [Marian Parker] Whitney (1861-1945), niece to Josiah Dwight Whitney, who received her Ph.D. from Yale that year, and would later become professor at Vassar, and was active supporter of Women's education.
Whitney's final work was based on research during his time in charge of the California geological survey studying glacial and surface geology of the Sierra Nevada and the Pacific coast. The work is also noted for its section on the impact of logging on forests.
