Diary kept by Joseph McAleenan of a three-week hunting trip into the Grand Canyon country after mountain lion in September 1917. In addition to McAleenan, other members of the party included W.D. “Billy” Starr, “Red John”, McSweeney, and Austin, who bagged the expedition’s first mountain lion. McAleenan records camp life and conversation, natural wonders, anecdotes of life in the old West, and the experiences of the hunters and photographers. They made their base camp in Shinumo Creek Canyon and later in Bright Angel Canyon.
