Letterpress broadside. 17 x 11-3/4 inches. Old folds, minor staining Item #346628
Albert W. Lovering (1823-1907) would become one of the largest booksellers of the 19th century, operating a thriving business in Boston and subsequently in New York. But prior to opening those stores he operated a shop in his hometown of Exeter, New Hampshire. The present broadside advertises a host of "fancy goods" for Christmas gifts, including boxes, ink wells, candlesticks, chess boards, watch stands, etc., but also annual gift books and toys. Among the latter is a game called Uncle Tom, an early such reference to Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin. The broadside unrecorded in OCLC.
