Marie-Claire Blais (b. 1939 - d. 2021) was a prolific Canadian author who wrote primarily in French for a Quebecois audience. Mary Meigs (b.1917 - d. 2002) was Blais' professional and romantic partner for many years and contributed the illustrations for this special edition of Une Saison Dans La Vie d'Emmanuel (A Season in the Life of Emmanuel), which won the Roman Prix Medicis award for 1966. This special edition is inscribed to novelist Mary McCarthy who was at one time married to Edmund Wilson, the literary critic and friend of both Marie-Claire Blais and Mary Meigs who introduced the two.
