Instead of being numbered, this copy has the printed word "copy" crossed out in ink on the colophon page, it is unnumbered (as issued), signed by William Styron on colophon page, and the second flyleaf is inscribed by the publisher: "Presentation Copy for John Cheever" [presumably one of only four copies for presentation].

Originally written as part of the novel Sophie's choice, Shadrach was published as a short story in the Nov. 21, 1978, issue of Esquire.
